My Hootis Is Killing Me

My Hootis is killing me.  I spent the entire weekend working on it and actually made a little progress.  I assure you that when I’m finished it won’t be a thing of beauty but it will be functional.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pretty Hootis. As a matter of fact, they are inherently unattractive.

Some little know facts about Hooti (that’s the plural of Hootis):

  1. The vast majority of parts are hand made.
  2. The guy at NAPA is even less help with a Hootis than with a car...if that’s possible.
  3. All purchase parts must be modified.
  4. The cost estimate to build a Hootis is less than half of what you’ll spend.
  5. An average Hootis will weigh more than a thousand pounds.
  6. About half of those thousand pounds is weld.
  7. When one inquires about specialty parts for a Hootis, the technical help guy gets snippy.
  8. Construction site language is a must during assembly.   #$%#&!!
  9. It is highly likely that completion of a Hootis will be anticlimactic for everyone not involved.

I smashed my left thumb again.  Actually, I didn’t smash it, I pinched it.  I was in need of a hone to smooth the inside of a piece of tubing and decided to make one.  I took a round file and put it in my cordless drill then secured the end of a sheet of 80 grit sandpaper on the file with a piece of duct tape.  Then I slowly wound it up on the file by running the drill.  Since it wasn’t of large enough diameter I added another piece of sandpaper and when I wound it on, I kinda went too fast and wound my thumb up with it.  Sandpaper is grippy.

Anyway, maybe next week I will get back to posting a little more regularly.
