Dreaming Again

If you've been reading this blog very long you know that I am an avid dreamer.  I know I'm lucky to remember most of them, but I honestly don't put much stock in any deep meanings.  The Sister disagrees, mainly because my dead relatives appear in everyone of them, but I think it's just random brain activity.  I will grant you that possibly I do have some incredibly creative dreams that many people don't experience, but maybe one in a hundred have any real meaning.
There is a common dream that many of us have quite often.  It is the day of the final exam for a class you suddenly remember you signed up for but never attended...and you must take the exam.  I have recently discovered that this is a cross cultural dream and causes the same anxiety for every dreamer.  If dreams do have meaning and I were to interpret this dream I would say it has to do with our unpreparedness for death.  Death is the exam.  You have to take it and we are rarely, if ever ready for it.
Now, for one a little more creative.  We are all familiar with the butterfly effect, where a butterfly flaps it's wings and the little breeze changes the weather in South America which causes a hurricane which results in flooding in North Carolina, etc.  In essence, everything influences everything else.  I had a dream where I went back in time...eleven years.  I have no idea how, I just did and when I was there, I was with my first cousin riding in one of his creations.  You are familiar with double decker buses?  Well this was a seven decker car.  It was like a regular car except it was seven cars high.  For what ever reason I was able to convince him that I had been in the future, but I wasn't getting very far giving him advice on things to do.  I was generally giving him stock tips and he wasn't interested.  I tried to remember football games and such so that he could bet on them and I think I told him a couple.  I did my best to think of stuff that had happened over the past several years, but came to realize that I hadn't really been paying attention.  It really didn't matter to him since all he was interested in was who he was going to marry.  We were riding in the seven decker and there was a woman there with him, but I don't know who she was.  I told him that he would marry one woman twice, but I wouldn't tell him anymore than that.  It would be his second wife, who in actuality is dead and he did not really marry twice.
At some point we ended up at his parents house and it was early morning.  I was sitting at the table with my Aunt, who in actuality is deceased, and her youngest daughter.  There was a glass cylinder brimming full of hot water for coffee on the table.  My Aunt leaned over and, against my protests, put her left eye in the water, then leaned back and said it didn't hurt.  I don't really remember what took place after that.  I know I gave people some stock tips like Amazon, Wal-Mart, FedEx, Maverick Tube, Home Depot, etc, but to people that don't buy stock.
Later in the dream I awoke in my parents house and for whatever reason, looked out the back door.  There were buffalo walking across the yard and a row of trees between our yard and the neighbor's houses.  The funny thing was that the neighbor's houses were definitely not the neighbor's houses that I knew.  I went back in and looked out a side window and realized that the house was in the right place.  I returned to the back door and took a good look across the lawn at the houses behind us.  I began to realize that two of the houses were huge and one was the same small house that it had always been.  The row of trees was actually in my parents yard and the property line was the same.  The drive between the houses was the same as it had always been, but I realized that my parents' house was much bigger.  I started looking around at the outside and noticed that it hadn't been well cared for, but still was huge.  The entire world was different.  I knew why.  I had been to the past and told people those few little things and with those, everything changed.

As you know, I can have some real humdingers. I especially like waking up to realize (with great relief) that I was indeed just dreaming of being out in the yard in broad daylight, hiding in the Magnolia tree, naked as a picked jaybird. This particular Magnolia tree is at a house we lived in about 25 years ago. I'd be in real trouble if it was our current yard. I planted this yard's Magnolia 4 years ago and it's little more than a shrub...hardly sufficient.

So that's what made that tree lose all its leaves.  I thought it was some kind of worm or something.
